About

The foundation Nova Rhetorica is a public interest foundation that has no profit objective. Its main goal is to spread and broaden the knowledge of Historical Informed Practice of Classical music through concerts, open stages, recordings, lectures, and publications.

Its name is inspired by the art of the rhetoric that the ancient Greeks and Romans developed, and its everlasting influence in the Western art history. Both the composers of the Baroque period and the artists who are supported by this foundation have been deeply influenced by this philosophy. Docere, movere et delectare (to teach, to move, and to please), as Cicero taught us, are the main pillars of any speech, whether it is formed by words or by musical notes. Thus, the ensembles supported by foundation Nova Rhetorica want to achieve these three goals by discovering, deciphering and understanding music stories from the past and conveying them to nowadays’ audience.
